Generation Europe SA - What do young people really think?
For six years already, Generation Europe SA has been collecting young people’s views through surveys, opinion polls, discussion forums and workshops to find out what they think about issues ranging from the future of the workplace and work life balance to the environment and human rights.
We launched Generation Europe SA in 2002 to provide a two-way communication platform for young Europeans aged 19 to 29 to discuss and promote their opinions with public and corporate policy makers. We now have over 8,000 registered active members of our ‘community” interacting with each other and with policy makers. It’s free to join and young people get the opportunity to voice their opinions to relevant stakeholders.
Generation Europe’s most recent focus has been on one of our community’s greatest concerns; the question of youth & employment,. We have looked at the future of innovation and technology in the workplace through online surveys and focus groups and we participated in Employment Week 2008. Our “Young Experts” database currently under development will be an outstanding means to put demand in touch with supply.
We also continue to address many other issues such as the role of business in society, consumer affairs, lifestyle, political apathy and European policy in general. Past major events include “Shaping the Future” summits where participants were elected (via cyber-election) to represent their country and generation and the plenary sessions were broadcast live from the European Parliament. The aim of GE Summits and Conferences is to engage young people in debates on topical issues and to produce meaningful pan-European youth insight research for event sponsors and partners, as well as for policy-makers.
Generation Europe is represented by GE national ambassadors in several countries, helping us reach young people locally as well as keeping our community updated on the various relevant national debates.

Generation Europe Foundation
Unlike other NGOs, Generation Europe Foundation was created in 1995 – seven years before its parent Generation Europe SA. The concept of the Foundation was based on a simple observation that the young represent tomorrow's decision-makers who will live, work, consume and contribute to the economic and political fibre of Europe in the years to come.
Surveys continue to reveal a considerable "deficit" of understanding about the rights and responsibilities of being an EU citizen amongst young people in every Member State. Both public and private sectors recognise how difficult it is to reach an adolescent target audience and to engage them in interactive dialogue. Generation Europe Foundation’s ability to provide comprehensive non-propaganda information campaigns has been welcomed in all 27 member states and in several neighbouring countries.
The Europa Diary - Our Flagship
The Europa Diary project was born at Generation Europe. This practical student diary and teacher’s guide meets the information and communication challenge about Europe, its functioning and its future. Issues including citizenship, consumer rights and responsibilities, EU environment policies, employment, enterprise, enlargement and the EU’s role in a wide range of areas of interest to 16-18 year olds feature in the diary. The teacher guide is a tool to stimulate debate in class.
For the 2008-2009 school year, the Generation Europe Foundation has distributed 2.814.250 copies of the Europa Diary in the 27 EU Member States, in all EU official languages to schools who ordered them and who agreed to provide feedback on its content and usefulness. A Serbian edition is under preparation for 2009...
